Description

What kind of wine it is

Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is a still red wine that elegantly expresses the soul of its territory. It is created from a meticulous blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. On the nose, it reveals an interweaving of dark berry fruits and blackcurrant, enriched by hints of tobacco, notes of eucalyptus and a fresh balsamic vein. On the palate, it is dense and enveloping, with echoes of dark chocolate and a delicate touch of vanilla. The sip is supported by a silky tannic structure, culminating in a savoury finish with great persistence.

Where it comes from

This wine is born in Bolgheri, in the heart of the enchanting Tuscan landscape. The vineyards of the Ornellaia estate are rooted in soils composed of volcanic rock and alluvial earth, an ideal combination to enhance the aromatic concentration and structure of the grapes. The approach in the vineyard focuses on harvesting the grapes at full ripeness, authentically enhancing the natural and profound vocation of this specific terroir.

How it is produced

Production begins with meticulous hand harvesting, followed by double sorting, including optical selection. Each variety and individual plot are vinified separately. Fermentation in stainless steel involves maceration for about two weeks. Malolactic fermentation begins in vats and is completed in barrels. The wine matures in wood in temperature-controlled cellars for twelve months, followed by the blending of the different components. After a further period of rest, the process concludes with the necessary bottle ageing.

History and Curiosities

A true “second wine” from the renowned Bolgheri estate, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2023 combines immediate appeal with exceptional ageing potential. This Merlot-dominant cuvée, offered in the prestigious Magnum format in a wooden case, is made from hand-picked and rigorously selected grapes. After careful maturation for around 15 months in barriques and six months in bottle, it delivers a Bolgheri DOC Rosso of extraordinary taste and aromatic complexity, celebrated for its silky tannins and a savoury, persistent finish.

History
Tenuta dell'Ornellaia was founded in 1981, in a beautiful, unspoiled part of Tuscany. From the outset, the mission was to produce outstanding wines. Since then passion and dedication, coupled with a unique terroir and an extraordinary microclimate, have brought the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia's prestigious labels great success and recognition as one of the most important wineries in the world.

Vision
A little more than 20 years ago, a revelation: the future of Italian viticulture had to take a new enological path, in search of absolute quality. To achieve this goal, the proper place, proper time, and best people were needed. This led to the idea of the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia, a place of infinite potential, cultivated with wisdom and experience by its "artists," who seek, with every vintage, a new masterpiece.

Philosophy
Production limited to the course of the year, harvesting by hand only after full ripeness, individual vinification for each vineyard, respect for a unique and precious terroir. These are just some of the choices made by Ornellaia, in a philosophy that has privileged quality from the very beginning. Thanks to women and men who put their arms, soul, head and heart into their work, all year round. And the results can be seen, but above all tasted...
