Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi by Luigi Einaudi is a full-bodied red wine made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. To the eye, it displays a garnet red colour enhanced by elegant amber highlights. On the nose, it offers an intense bouquet that evolves over time towards ethereal notes of spices, truffle and leather. On the palate, it stands out for its enveloping body, supported by a smooth tannic structure that ensures extraordinary longevity. The sip finishes with a long, spicy aftertaste, ideal when paired with red meats, braised dishes and mature cheeses.
Where it comes from
This expression of Nebbiolo comes from the Terlo area, a historic Piedmontese cru, and specifically from the Costa Grimaldi vineyard. The plot is situated at an altitude of around three hundred and ten metres, enjoying an optimal south-east exposure. The vines sink their roots into a distinctive marly-limestone soil, a unique geological feature that gives the wine its typical structure and precision. The Guyot training system allows for balanced ripening of the bunches, enhancing the identity of the original terroir.
How it is produced
Vinification begins in steel and cement tanks, with careful temperature control between thirty and thirty-two degrees. The process includes a post-fermentation maceration of about twenty-five days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The maturation process then continues for several months in oak barrels, where the wine acquires complexity and balance. The production process concludes with a slow refinement in the bottle, a fundamental step to stabilise and harmonise the aromatic profile.
