Description
What type of wine it is
Le Macchiole's Messorio is a still red wine with a Typical Geographical Indication (IGT) from Tuscany, capable of expressing the pure essence of Merlot. In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red colour, introducing a layered aromatic profile. Clear notes of sour cherries, plums, and black cherries emerge, followed by nuances of liquorice, mentholated tobacco, cinchona, and dark spices. Fermented in steel and concrete and aged in barrels and amphorae, on the palate it proves to be structured, with smooth tannins and a finish with a pleasant and long savoury persistence.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Bolgheri territory in Tuscany, in the municipality of Castagneto Carducci. The grapes come from the Vignone and Ulivino vineyards, cultivated using the Guyot system. The coastal microclimate contributes to giving the wine its unmistakable gustatory balance and natural elegance.
How it is produced
The harvest takes place between the second and third week of September, with careful selection to identify the perfect moment for picking. Once at the winery, the grapes undergo a fermentation and maceration phase of about a month inside steel and concrete tanks. The ageing lasts for a year and a half, using new wooden barrels, a truncated conical barrel, and a portion that rests in stoneware amphorae. This technical management shapes a consistent wine, endowed with a remarkable capacity for evolution over time.
