Description
Wine Profile
Graci's Etna Rosso Feudo di Mezzo is a Sicilian red wine with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata of great elegance, capable of precisely expressing the essence of the volcano. It is a blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio, vinified with spontaneous fermentation and aged in large oak barrels, with a dry, refined, and structured profile, yet agile at the same time. On the nose, it offers clear aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant, enriched by hints of violet, laurel, and spicy notes. The palate is defined by a well-integrated tannic texture and a marked freshness, closing with a savoury and persistent finish, supported by a clear mineral character that makes it ideal for pairing with meat and game dishes.
Origin
This wine originates from the Feudo di Mezzo district in Passopisciaro, located on the north-eastern slope of Etna, in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia. The vineyards are located at an altitude of six hundred metres, immersed in a typical Mediterranean mountain climate. The vines take root in brown and stony volcanic soils, devoid of limestone but rich in minerals, with a sandy-loam texture. The high planting density and low yields per hectare favour a remarkable qualitative concentration, giving the wine that taut and deep character that reflects the authentic Etna terroir.
Production
The harvest takes place in mid-October. In the cellar, vinification proceeds with a long maceration on the skins and a spontaneous fermentation triggered by indigenous yeasts inside oak vats, without any temperature control. The subsequent malolactic fermentation also occurs naturally. Ageing continues in large oak barrels, allowing the wine to reach its structural balance, before concluding with a necessary rest in the bottle. This production process allows the integrity of the fruit and the authentic character of the territory to be preserved.
History and trivia
This wine originates from a historic vineyard located in the Feudo di Mezzo district, characterised by low yields that ensure a high concentration of quality.
