Description

What kind of spirit is this

Flor de Caña is a Nicaraguan rum crafted from local sugarcane molasses at 40% ABV. This structured modern spirit is distilled using a continuous multi-column method to ensure a smooth profile. It shows an intense amber colour with ruby highlights, offering a rich bouquet. The nose reveals red fruits, honey, and toasted nuts. On the palate, flavours of oak, vanilla, and baked apple transition into chestnut and dark chocolate. The persistent finish leaves a lingering nutty sweetness enriched by dark caramel, spices, and delicate smoky accents.

Where it comes from

This rum is matured at the base of the San Cristóbal volcano in Nicaragua. The local environment, defined by volcanic soil and a Caribbean setting, plays a vital role in shaping the liquid. Resting in a natural tropical climate, the spirit develops a full-bodied character with well-integrated alcohol. Managed by the founding family since 1890, the estate relies on these unique geographical conditions to craft its profile. The warm surroundings deepen the amber colour and foster harmony between sweet notes and a gently smoky finish.

How it is produced

Fermentation of Nicaraguan molasses with selected yeasts is followed by processing at the San Antonio Sugar Mill. The liquid undergoes continuous multi-column distillation up to five times to ensure purity. It is aged in premium ex-bourbon American white oak casks at ambient temperatures of 26–28°C. The process entirely excludes added sugar, caramel, or artificial ingredients, relying on 100% renewable energy. Best enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a Daiquiri, it pairs perfectly with 80–90% dark chocolate.

History and Heritage

Crafted in Nicaragua by the Pellas family since 1890, Flor de Caña Centenario 12 Years matures at the base of the San Cristóbal volcano. It is uniquely sealed with local dried plantain leaves and produced using 100% renewable energy.

From this winery
The story of Flor de Caña began in 1890 when a young Italian adventurer named Alfredo Francisco Pellas decided to found an agro-industrial mill in the north-western region of Nicaragua. 130 years later, the entire production process continues under the supervision of the same family (five generations of excellence and family values), achieving perfection in the production of rum. Aged naturally without artificial ingredients.

Flor de Caña rums are naturally matured in high quality bourbon barrels, with no artificial ingredients or sugar. They are also gluten-free and KOSHER certified.

Flor de Caña has received over 180 international awards, making it one of the most awarded rums in the world. One of the biggest accolades was being named 'Global Rum Producer of the Year' by the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London.

Sustainably produced rum, from raw material to bottling. Flor de Caña is produced sustainably, at all stages, from raw material to bottling. It is the only spirit in the world to be both Carbon Neutral and Fair Trade certified. The rum is distilled using 100% renewable energy and, since 2005, Flor de Caña has committed to planting 50,000 trees each year.
