Description
From this plot, known to everyone as Montesodi because of the stony nature of the soil, the first Chianti Rufina Cru was born in 1974. It represents the wine of my youth and my fondest memories at Castello Nipozzano, a Sangiovese of extreme elegance and vivacity, capable of moving me even after decades.

Castello Nipozzano is, in fact, the most famous and historic property of the Frescobaldi family, also thanks to the surrounding territory, as the name itself recounts: according to popular tradition, Nipozzano means in fact "without a well', indicating that the area was poor in water, an ideal circumstance for growing vines.
The first 'reviews' on the quality of Nipozzano wine date back to the Renaissance, when even the great artists such as Donatello and Michelozzo Michelozzi used to buy this wine. Castello Nipozzano, in fact, means Tuscan wine par excellence, Chianti Classico in particular, thanks to a regional winemaking tradition followed with constancy and commitment, without ever forgetting the desire to innovation.
The true history of Tuscany that has excelled the art of wine-making for thousands of years. A testimony of this is the fact that Marquises Frescobaldi already in 1855 invested 1,000 silver florins to begin cultivating varieties then unknown in Tuscany, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot: after more than a century, the care of these magnificent vines enabled the production of the estate's great wine, Mormoreto.
