Poderi Castellare di Castellina is an estate of about 80 ha. in the heart of Chianti Classico, in Castellina in Chianti. About 33 hectares of vineyards are situated on the hills of a natural amphitheatre facing southeast.
The production is about 250,000 bottles of wine per year.
At an average altitude of 370 metres above sea level. The vineyards are between 5 and 30 years old. In addition to the vineyards, there are about 12 hectares of olive groves and 15 hectares of mixed cultivation. The rest is forest. Castellare di Castellina was created in 1968 from the merger of five estates. The yields per hectare at Castellare are very low, well below the maximum allowed by the Chianti Classico DOCG regulations. Excellent exposure to the sun, good water drainage and a mixed soil of calcareous marl, marl and little clay give wines, both red and white, very well structured, intense and suitable for long ageing in the bottle.
