Description

What kind of wine it is

Bertani Secco is a still red wine from Veneto, displaying an intense ruby colour with garnet highlights. Created from a blend of Corvina, Sangiovese Grosso, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes, it offers a defined and profound aromatic profile. On the nose, it reveals notes of jammy fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant, with hints of pepper, cloves, nutmeg and cocoa. On the palate, its dry and structured character emerges, supported by a fine tannic texture that envelops the sip. The mouthfeel is full-bodied and enveloping, finishing with remarkable persistence, making it the ideal companion for roast red meats, game and mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

The grapes are sourced from the vineyards of Valpolicella Valpantena, highlighted under the Verona designation. The area is distinguished by its marl-limestone soils rich in iron, essential for giving the wine a solid flavour structure and intense fruity expression. Following an approach true to local identity, Bertani enhances the unique features of this winegrowing ecosystem. The combination of Corvina with the other varieties creates a perfect aromatic synergy, ensuring a refined structural balance between the natural spicy notes and the vibrancy of the fruit.

How it is produced

Vinification begins with a long cold maceration on the skins, followed by a slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then racked with a slight residual sugar to complete a second fermentation in traditional barrels of chestnut and cherry wood. This technical choice continues with an eighteen-month maturation phase in the same barrels, followed by a six-month rest in the bottle. The meticulous process in the cellar shapes a full-bodied red, capable of delivering accents of ripe fruit and a complex persistence that culminates in a pleasant coffee finish.

History and Curiosities

The Secco-Bertani Original Vintage Edition 2021 is an elegant tribute to the excellence of the historic winery founded in 1857. This red wine faithfully reproduces the original recipe and flavour, skilfully balancing tradition and modernity to deliver genuine emotions. Awarded 93 points by James Suckling, it stands out for its evocative 1930s-style packaging which enhances its identity. A glass that celebrates the essence of the Verona region, offering a complex and truly unforgettable sensory experience.

Remaining coherent with our most authentic identity represents an essential value for us. For more than a century and a half we have made wines that are recognizable for their identity, wines with a clear and therefore unmistakable stylistic profile. We have always chosen the path of territorial wines, even when it is method guiding us.

A path that at times is more difficult, but that builds solid relationships. It has never been enough to please our customers. We have always wanted to make them happy.
