Description
What kind of wine it is
I Pianali is a still rosé wine with Indicazione Geografica Tipica, produced in Tuscany by Argentiera and vinified in stainless steel. It is made from a blend of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, characterised by a bright peony pink colour. On the nose, it offers a fragrant bouquet with notes of small red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, enriched by floral nuances and hints of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is dry, light and lively, distinguished by great freshness and a pleasant marine savouriness. The sip is linear and leads to a fruity aftertaste that finishes with a harmonious note of dog rose.
Where it comes from
This wine originates along the coastal strip of Tuscany, in the area between Bolgheri and Alta Maremma. The vines grow on the I Pianali plateau, in a hilly area situated between 150 and 200 metres above sea level, overlooking the sea and surrounded by woodland. The Mediterranean microclimate, refreshed by constant sea breezes, ensures excellent temperature variation. The complex soils, rich in marl, calcareous sediments, clay and sandstone, are reflected in a marked minerality that gives the wine its unmistakable dry and saline profile.
How it is produced
The production process begins with a manual harvest, aimed at preserving the maximum aromatic integrity of the grapes. To maintain freshness and floral notes, fermentation takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature for about fifteen days. The wine then matures for two or three months on the fine lees, gaining structure and volume without losing its natural gustatory tension. A brief and careful final rest allows it to achieve perfect sensory harmony.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 2000 through the collaboration between the Fratini family and the Marchesi Antinori, Tenuta Argentiera dominates the highest and southernmost area of Bolgheri. In this coastal setting, caressed by the sea breezes of the Upper Maremma, I Pianali is born. The vision of Stéphane Derenoncourt and rigorous geological analyses enhance, in every vintage, the authentic maritime terroir. The vineyards thrive on the plateau of the same name, between 150 and 200 metres above sea level, surrounded by woodland and facing west, giving this rosé an irresistible aromatic freshness.

The name Argentiera derives from ancient silver mines, whose traces are preserved by the history ’s pen since the Etruscans. The Etruscan civilisation developed the peninsula’s first metallurgy, and their far-trading ships brought the art of metalworking to the remote corners of the flourishing archaic Greek settlements.
The estate extends over 153 hectares and embraces a one-of-a-kind biodiversity, a fundamentally important biological mosaic that allows the vineyards to flourish to their optimum extent, protected from insects, harmful animals, and climate-change stress. Read more
