Description

What kind of wine it is

Versalto Pinot Bianco by Alois Lageder is a biodynamic white wine, a true expression of the Trentino Alto Adige region within the Vigneti delle Dolomiti. Its aromatic profile weaves together notes of apple and peach with fresh hints of mountain herbs. On the palate, it displays an elegant medium body, standing out for its dry and precise sip. The vibrant freshness on the palate is combined with a pronounced mineral character, enhanced by a subtle spiciness imparted by ageing in steel and wooden barrels, which gives a long and harmonious finish, ideal paired with asparagus and seafood dishes.

Where it comes from

The Pinot Bianco grapes are grown in the Adige Valley, among the vineyards of Haberle and Penone above Magrè. The rows are situated at around 500 metres above sea level, enjoying excellent south-west exposure. The meeting of Mediterranean and Alpine currents creates a strong daily temperature variation, essential for the development of defined and intense aromas. The stony soils, rich in gravel and calcareous matrix, impart a unique energy to the grapes, reflected in a pronounced savouriness and perfect structural rigour.

How it is produced

After harvesting, vinification involves temperature-controlled fermentation in steel containers. To enrich the structure, the wine rests on fine lees for about nine months. Ageing is divided between steel and wooden barrels, a deliberate choice that respects the purity of the fruit and imparts a delicate spiciness. The result of this meticulous process is a dry and juicy sip, enhanced by a slight tannic hint that elegantly prolongs the finish.

History and Curiosities

The Versalto Pinot Bianco 2024 by Alois Lageder is the result of an intriguing combination of very different geological and microclimatic factors. The grapes come from two opposite sides of the Adige Valley: partly from the Haberle estate in Pochi di Salorno, on the left orographic side, and partly from the Penone vineyards on the opposite side. Both plots are situated at five hundred metres above sea level, where they benefit from significant temperature variations and both Mediterranean and Alpine influences, giving a unique character to this biodynamic wine.
