Description

What kind of wine it is

Alois Lageder Lindenburg Lagrein is a still red wine that faithfully expresses the identity of the Alto Adige region. Made from Lagrein grapes, it presents a dry palate with a full, well-structured body. The tasting reveals mature and pronounced tannins, harmoniously integrated and accompanied by a pleasant freshness and a delicate bitter note. The flavour progression supports a persistent finish with spicy undertones. Part of the I Capolavori range, this red boasts remarkable ageing potential, offering an elegant and highly harmonious sip.

Where it comes from

The grapes come from the Lindenburg vineyard, located at around 280 metres above sea level near the Talvera river, in a warm and sheltered basin. The microclimate of Bolzano, characterised by hot summers, is the ideal habitat for cultivating Lagrein. The vines sink their roots into deep, sandy soils of alluvial origin, enriched with volcanic gravel. These unique soil characteristics give the wine a firm character and a clear mineral tension. The Alois Lageder estate follows the principles of biodynamic agriculture, promoting practices that respect the ecosystem to enhance the vitality of the land.

How it is produced

Vinification follows a holistic approach, beginning with a rigorous manual harvest. In the cellar, spontaneous fermentation occurs thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts, accompanied by maceration that includes a proportion of whole bunches. Once the alcoholic phase in steel is complete, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation. Maturation continues in oak barrels for eighteen months, with the use of wood carefully managed to preserve the wine's regional expressiveness. This meticulous production ensures a perfect balance between fruit and spice, finishing with an earthy and long-lasting aftertaste.

History and Curiosities

Born in a renowned Bolzano farmhouse near the Talvera river, this noble Cru from the “i Capolavori” line by Alois Lageder celebrates a grape variety with over six hundred years of history. The traditional pergola training system protects the bunches during the scorching South Tyrolean summers. Through a rigorous biodynamic philosophy, the estate nourishes the deep sandy soil by integrating animal grazing to promote a genuine natural balance. Fermented with indigenous yeasts, this elegant Lagrein from 2021 deservedly earned 92 points from James Suckling.
