Description
What kind of wine it is
Chardonnay Gaun by Alois Lageder is a still white wine that expresses the authenticity of Chardonnay through the principles of biodynamic agriculture. To the eye, it displays a golden yellow colour, enlivened by subtle greenish reflections. The aromatic profile is distinctly mineral, with hints of flint interwoven with notes of ripe apricot, mango, and delicate buttery and yeasty nuances. On the palate, it is dry and pleasantly creamy, supported by lively acidity that gives great juiciness to the sip. The elegant structure is balanced by a continuous savoury tension, guiding the tasting towards a fresh, long, and persistent finish.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the Gaun vineyard, located on the alluvial cone of Magrè within the Löwengang estate in Trentino-Alto Adige. The vines grow at altitudes between two hundred and ten and six hundred and fifty metres, sinking their roots into calcareous and gravelly soils of sandy origin. The area benefits from a warm microclimate tempered by strong temperature variations between day and night, an essential factor for preserving the freshness and aromatic precision of the grapes. The site’s name pays homage to Baron Gaun, a former owner, and identifies a prime area for this variety in the Dolomites Vineyards region, offering a faithful expression of the mountain landscape.
How it is produced
After the harvest, vinification begins with a spontaneous fermentation activated exclusively by indigenous yeasts, including partial contact with whole bunches to impart greater structure and a subtle phenolic note. The wine then matures through ageing on fine lees for about nine months, skilfully divided between large wooden barrels and stainless steel tanks. This technical choice enhances flavour development while maintaining the original clarity of the fruit. The entire production process follows strict practices, making this label suitable even for those following a vegan diet.
History and Curiosities
The Chardonnay Gaun by Alois Lageder pays tribute to Baron Gaun, the historic owner of the Löwengang estate. Grown on the alluvial cone of Magrè, this wine comes from vines rooted in calcareous and gravelly soils, characterised by significant temperature variations. The deep commitment to Demeter biodynamic agriculture guides the entire production process. Following spontaneous fermentation, the skilful maturation in wood and steel for nine months enriches its elegant and vibrant structure, offering an authentic expression of the precious Dolomite territory.
