Description
What type of wine it is
The Barbaresco Ovello Vigna Loreto produced by Albino Rocca is a still red wine from Piedmont with a structured and complex profile. Made from Nebbiolo grapes, it belongs to the renowned Barbaresco denomination, a historic oenological expression of the territory. In the glass, it presents mature tannins, a vivid freshness and a pleasant savouriness, closing with a long finish and a distinct mineral trail. Its harmonious and intense character takes shape thanks to careful ageing in oak barrels.
Where it comes from
This wine comes from the heart of the municipality of Barbaresco, in Piedmont, within the celebrated territory of Ovello. More precisely, the grapes are grown in the specific parcel of Vigna Loreto, located on the western slope and cultivated at an altitude of 240 metres above sea level. The south-west exposure ensures optimal ripening of the bunches, while the limestone-clay soils with sandy veins define the elegant style of the final product. This plot is home to old vines planted in the 1970s, alongside more recent vines, which provide great agricultural solidity.
How it is produced
Production follows a method focused on the enhancement of the single parcel, through separate vinification of the grapes. After fermentation, the process continues with a long maturation that takes place within oak barrels from German and Austrian forests, where the liquid rests for about two years. This step allows the tannic texture to be defined and the organoleptic profile to be enriched in a measured way. The final stage involves several months of ageing in the bottle, a fundamental step to achieve the definitive structural balance.
History and curiosities
The renowned Loreto vineyard is situated in the heart of the historic Ovello area. The Albino Rocca winery decided to vinify the grapes from this plot separately for the first time in the 1980s, creating a unique vision. The original vines date back to 1970 and constitute an authentic agricultural heritage. The historical prestige of this production is confirmed by accolades from Decanter and James Suckling. The use of unusual German and Austrian oak casks for ageing enhances and defines the noble character of the estate.

Thanks to the inheritance of some of our most precious vineyards in the 1960’s our grandfather was able to start what is now our winery Albino Rocca. Albino’s hard work and his strong support of our father Angelo Rocca laid the foundation that created a family winemaking tradition that has grown internationally over the years.
Our history has been built together, year by year. First through the gradual acquisition of vineyards and the production of not only Nebbiolo, but also Dolcetto and Barbera in addition to our continuous effort to evolve the quality of our Barbaresco – which starts in the vineyards and continues in the cellar.
