In 1974 Giorgio Bianchi moved his family from Milan to Radda to fulfil the dream of a lifetime: living in the country and learning to make wine. This was a brave choice at a time when Chianti was a wild and wonderful place, economically backward, and without good quality winegrowing and tourism, with a very few exceptions. With passion and a great deal of effort Giorgio and his wife Eli rebuilt the long-abandoned farmhouse, replanted the vineyards and built a small cellar. After Giorgio passed away prematurely in 1999, his son Roberto took over the winery. He and his wife Lis have succeeded in developing the farm’s potential and bringing its wine production to an excellent standard.
Val delle Corti is a small, family-run farm with five hectares of specialized vineyards plus a couple more which are rented, as well as about 600 olive trees. The property is organically farmed (certification will be official in 2014) and partly biodynamic. The vineyards, aged between four and 40 years old, produce five wines: three table wines (the reds, Il Campino and Lo Straniero, and a Rosé), a Chianti Classico and a Riserva. Completing the picture is a renovated stone-walled barn, now used for holiday accommodation. Visitors are always welcome, preferably by prior agreement by phone.
