From this winery
  • Start up year: 1851
The Maison of Saumur, was founded in 1851 by Etienne Bouvet and his wife Celestine Ladubay, with the purchase of 8 kilometers of underground galleries, to be used as a cellar for the Bouvet-Ladubay winery.

Already in 1860, the Maison is ready to export its wines through the English Channel and in 1878, in Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, in the department of Maine-et-Loire, the castle of the Bouvet-Ladubay family was born, with annexed accommodation for its more than 90 employees. On the death of Etienne due to the lack of direct heirs, the effects of the First World War and the consequent economic crisis, the castle was auctioned in 1932.

The winery is bought by the Monmousseau family, and over the years, especially after the Second World War, generation after generation, it is brought back to the original national and international prestige, further developing the exports and the very high quality of the wines produced. In 1974, with the aim of further improving the export of the Maison, Patrice Monmousseau supported and agreed with the Taittinger group, for the sale of the Bouvet-Ladubay winery, while remaining firmly at the wheel.

Among the oldest names in the denomination, Taittinger is a name that inevitably identifies itself with one of the great French families that has contributed decisively to the success of Champagne in the world.

Over the years, several generations have followed the lead of Taittinger Champagne and thanks to the particular stimulus of Claude Taittinger, from 1960 to 2005, the Maison grew and developed, launching itself in the international market as one of the most important and prestigious French brands. Now owned by a large banking group, the Maison has been led by Pierre-Emanuel Taittinger since 2005. In 2015, after the construction of a new and innovative winemaking plant, not far from the historic cellar of Saint-Hilaire-Saint-Florent, Patrice Monmousseau and her daughter Juliette, they fully reacquired the Maison Bouvet-Ladubay, continuing their sparkling wine project in balance between tradition and innovation.

Today, as then, the Maison produces wines of absolute excellence and unmistakable expression of territory and terroir, including sparkling wines such as Bouvet-Ladubay Brut, Saphir Vintage, Rosé Excellence, Bouvet Trésor Blanc and Rosé and Crémant de Loire .
