Kurtatsch Brenntal Gewurztraminer Riserva 2021
From the 13th century until the early modern age, 'Traminer' was considered the most famous wine in the South Tyrolean area. The 'Brenntal' area, located northwest of Kurtatsch, is among the warmest during the day. From the hilly vineyards' deep, red clay soils, the Gewürztraminer vine extracts those seductive aromas that lead to baroque descriptions: peony with dewdrop, acacia honey, caramelised orange peel, mango, lychee and lavender. In the lower areas, the Gewürztraminer would end up 'exhaling' too much acidity - on these exposed terraces, which have been strengthened with dry stone walls for centuries, the robust wine acquires a lively acidity and flavour. In the colourful combination of stones of the ancient dry stone walls, one can discern the elements of the pedological imprint that Gewürztraminer 'Brenntal' conveys to the palate: a complex interplay of minerals that emerges as a vigorous and juicy finish with ageing. The ageing capacity of 'Brenntal' is impressive. This is why it is only available as a Reserve wine.
