On the Colli Orientali del Friuli, which come from the province of Udine to the border with Slovenia, come breezes that cool and dry the vineyards, but not the cold north winds, stopped by the Julian Prealps.
Here the soils are rich in marl and sandstone, a mix called locally "ponca", characteristic for their poor fertility and therefore very suitable for the cultivation of vines that would otherwise be too productive, with particular advantage for the concentration of sugars and aromas in the grapes.
In this context, the Fantinel family acquired from Mario Paron the winery that would become La Roncaia. It was 1988 and the initial idea was to place the bottles produced essentially on the local market.
Once the first successes had been achieved, the gaze shifted first to the national market and then to the international market. Today, La Roncaia is a company of 60,000 bottles a year, of reliable and valuable quality, a perfect synthesis of the wonderful nature of the Colli Orientali.
