Located in the municipality of Magliano in Toscana (GR), Grillesino was established in 1999 from the desire of Giancarlo and Saverio Notari to produce a wine that could be managed at every stage of production. With vineyards largely belonging to the Morellino di Scansano DOCG area, the company now covers an extension of 42 hectares, all cultivated using the spurred cordon system with a planting density of 6000 vines per hectare. From 2000 to 2002, a total of 18 hectares were planted with the Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties, which at Grillesino express themselves with great complexity and richness of aroma. The clones planted were selected with the collaboration of the University of Agriculture of Florence and the Institut d'Oenologie de Bordeaux; a collaboration that also led to the identification of the Cabernet- Margaux clone, used for our Ceccante.
In 2004, expansion and renovation work on the cellar was completed, and in the same year 17 hectares were acquired for the production of Vermentino. Two small vineyards cultivated with Pinot Blanc and Viognier complete the property. The wines are vinified using modern technology and undergo very light filtration treatments so that typicality is one of their main characteristics.
