Description
Zacapa Centenario XO Solera rum, originally from Guatemala, has been produced since 1976. It is a super premium rum, the flagship of the Licorera Zacapaneca distillery, which was founded in 1940 in eastern Guatemala. The volcanic terrain, the constantly cool climate, and the altitude of 2,300 meters favor the aging of Centenario XO Solera rum. The product, in particular, is classified as agricultural rums, because it is made with extra pure sugar cane juice. Zacapa Centenario XO Solera rum is distinguished by its excellent quality and its inimitable flavor, thanks also to the use of pineapple yeast. Zacapa Centenario XO Solera rum is the result of a 5-day fermentation and is aged in oak barrels, as per the Solera system. For this purpose, barrels produced by local artisans are used, which are carefully stacked one above the other and have previously held bourbon and sherry. As time passes, part of the contents of the barrels placed above is transferred to the barrels below, so that the Centenario XO Solera rum can be enriched with certain spices and cocoa notes. The aging, which lasts up to 25 years, favors the dark color and intense flavor of this rum, which also reveals hints of ripe fruit.

Zacapa Rums are made from pure sugar cane juice, a plant grown on volcanic soils in the southern part of the country.
In the fermentation process, which lasts for 5 days, a powdery extract from a proprietary strain is used to ensure a unique and constant taste over time. The aging process takes place on the plateaus of Quetzaltenango, at an altitude of 2300 meters above sea level, in the so-called "Casa sopra le Nuvole": this place, chosen by the master blender of the cellar Lorena Vasquez, is characterized by a fresh climate which favors a slow aging in white oak barrels, previously used for Bourbon whiskey and Sherry, and handmade by renowned artisans. Zacapa Rums are finally created with the solitary method: assembling vintage barrels and different characteristics makes it possible to obtain excellent quality rum and unmistakable taste. Read more
