Description

What kind of wine it is

The Baden Spätburgunder by Von der Mark is a still red wine that faithfully interprets the Pinot Noir grape variety. It stands out for its bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it blends notes of red cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with floral accents and a subtle toasted spiciness. On the palate, it is fresh and dry, supported by delicate tannins and a lively acidity that ensures a pleasantly juicy and clean finish.

Where it comes from

This wine originates from the Baden region, specifically in Tuniberg, Germany. The winery cultivates old rented vines with the aim of enhancing the unique characteristics of the area. The features of the local soils impart a marked mineral tension, evident in the clarity of every sip. The project aims to offer a rigorous interpretation of the German territorial identity, presenting an elegant and authentic profile.

How it is produced

The production process begins with a slow fermentation with indigenous yeasts in contact with the skins, to best preserve the aromatic heritage. Maturation in barrels smooths the structure, enriching the flavour with well-integrated nuances. Best served at a temperature between sixteen and eighteen degrees, it is the ideal companion for roast poultry and mushrooms, also finding an excellent balance with pork and delicate cheeses.

History and Curiosities

The Weingut von der Mark project was established in Tuniberg at the initiative of Master of Wine Jürgen von der Mark, with the aim of enhancing Pinot Noir. Born from the care of old rented vineyards, this venture combines a deeply artisanal approach with rigorous oenological precision. The utmost respect for the raw material allows the most authentic soul of Baden to be conveyed in the glass, offering a vibrant mineral tension that reflects the essence of this exceptional German terroir.

From this winery
In the quiet landscape of Baden, where the Tuniberg rises with its old Spätburgunder vines, Weingut von der Mark unfolds as a story of patience and personal vision. In 1994, Jürgen von der Mark moved from Landau to Efringen‑Kirchen, beginning ten years of work as a consulting oenologist across Baden and overseas.

His own project took shape in 2003, when he leased his first vineyard on the Tuniberg—an old parcel that became the core of his winemaking identity. The early years were nomadic and artisanal: grapes fermented in the cellars of fellow winemakers, then in a small gewölbekeller in Rheinweiler, later in a former butcher’s shop adapted as a winery.

Since 2011, the estate has found its home in the industrial area of Rheinweiler, a quiet space where time moves slowly and every decision is guided by respect for the fruit. Here, Jürgen—Geisenheim‑trained oenologist and Master of Wine—crafts wines shaped by precision, calmness, and a deep sense of place.

Von der Mark remains a small, devoted estate, where the producer’s personal journey meets the mineral tension of the Tuniberg and a philosophy rooted in authenticity.
