Description

What type of wine it is

Bocado from Cantina Andriano is a still red wine with the Alto Adige designation, produced solely from Schiava grapes. In the glass, it displays a vibrant ruby red colour. The nose reveals clear hints of small red fruits, accompanied by delicate nuances of violet and a distinct note of toasted almond. Fermented in steel and aged in large oak barrels, it stands out on the palate for its alpine freshness, proving to be harmonious, juicy and easy-drinking, with light, velvety tannins that accompany the sip towards a clean finish consistent with the olfactory sensations.

Where it comes from

The vines thrive in the heart of Alto Adige, specifically in the Missiano area, under the attentive care of Cantina Andriano. The vineyards are located at an altitude of between 260 and 500 metres above sea level, enjoying constant natural ventilation and ideal sun exposure. These climatic characteristics favour regular ripening, preserving the fragrance of the fruit. The soils feature reddish and clayey earths, resting on limestone rock with layers of white dolomite stone.

How it is produced

The processing of the Schiava grapes begins with fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The process takes place at a controlled temperature, using gentle pumping over designed to extract colour while keeping the purity of the aromas intact. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine rests for a short period in large oak barrels. This step softens the profile without hiding its mountain identity, resulting in a harmonious sip after careful final filtration.

Produced by the historic cooperative winery founded in 1893, the Schiava Bocado from Cantina Andriano is an authentic tribute to the tradition of the Alto Adige DOC. This indigenous grape variety has its roots in Missiano, becoming a true historical expression of the mountain terroir.

Change is the key to constancy. At Andriano we do not permit ourselves to drift with the passage of time; we have always made of point of taking our fate in our own hands. In 1893, the vintners of Andriano took a first decisive step and combined their resources to form the first winemaking co-operative in Alto Adige and at the same time the first in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire. 115 years later, in 2008, they took another forward-looking decision: an alliance with the renowned Cantina Terlano on the other side of the valley and the River Adige.

Today the strengths of the two wine estates are combined and yet clearly distinct from each other. With its outstanding sites, Cantina Andriano stands for constancy, underpinned by the historic achievement of the Andriano winegrowers for wines like Lagrein, which was one of the first to be aged in barriques here.

On the basis of a consistent commitment to quality and a strong focus on terroir, which had already been a successful recipe in Terlano, Cantina Andriano continues to develop step by step. The winery now looks to the future from a position of strength and can be proud of its identity and standard of quality. They have their roots in unique limestone-rich soils, a climate that is quite different from that of Terlano, and grape varieties ideally suited to these parameters.

That forms the foundation for the distinctive Andriano taste and identity.
