Description

What kind of wine it is

Testamatta Rosso, produced by Bibi Graetz, is a red wine with typical geographical indication that represents an authentic expression of Tuscany and the Sangiovese grape variety. The brilliant ruby colour introduces a bouquet where blackcurrant and plum stand out, enriched by delicate nuances of tobacco, vanilla and spices. Vinified with indigenous yeasts and matured in oak barrels, on the palate it is distinguished by its fleshy texture, elegant tannins and a well-integrated freshness, making it ideal for accompanying dishes with earthy tones.

Where it comes from

The Sangiovese grapes come from the Florentine hills and the areas of Vincigliata, Olmo, Lamole, Londa, Montefili and Siena. The old vines, trained in bush and Guyot systems, sink their roots into soil rich in galestro, clay and stones, which imparts acidic tension and a perfect balance between fruit and structure. The high-altitude vineyards, constantly ventilated, encourage slow and gradual ripening. This microclimate preserves the natural liveliness of the grapes, offering a deep and genuine territorial expression.

How it is produced

The process begins with a double manual selection to ensure only the best berries are used. After gentle pressing, the individual plots ferment separately with indigenous yeasts in open barrels, steel vats and truncated conical tanks. During vinification, daily manual punch-downs are carried out. Malolactic fermentation takes place in wood, followed by maturation in French oak barrels. Each batch is aged individually before the creation of the final blend, which is then further rested to achieve maximum harmony.

History and Curiosities

The name Testamatta reflects the creative, cheerful and passionate personality of the producer Bibi Graetz, who is considered a free spirit. In just 20 years of history, this wine has become an undisputed benchmark of Italian and global oenology.

In two decades since his first vintage release, Bibi Graetz has become one of the brightest lights in Tuscan winemaking. This is primarily thanks to the superb quality of his pure-Sangiovese Testamatta and Colore. Bibi Graetz draws on old vines, which give his best reds depth and soul.

Red grapes are cultivated on the hillsides above Florence and sourced from prime sites in the Chianti Classico region, such as Montefili and Lamole. His whites from the island of Giglio are also an inspiration, proving that Tuscany can make great white wine, as well as red. You have an opportunity to experience an amazing place where art, beauty and a unique winery become a setting for one of the best wine productions on the Tuscan and global scene.
