Aging For his Brunello, Argiano selects the grapes from his noblest vineyards and ages the wine in two different types of wood: the first year in French barriques and tonneaux of various sizes to strengthen the wine's innate structure, the second year in larger Slavonian oak barrels that allow the wine to balance. After ageing in wood, the wine is transferred to concrete tanks. The combination of concentrated, ripe grapes fermenting at carefully controlled temperatures, together with careful ageing in a selection of different oak barrels, produces red wines that retain the incredible ageing potential for which Brunello di Montalcino is famous.

Description

The Brunello di Montalcino from the Argiano winery, whose name is thought to derive from a reference to the god Janus, one of the most important and ancient in Roman tradition. Founded in 1580, the estate is also mentioned by Carducci in the verse "in which harshness I wiped myself with the wine of Argiano, which is very good." Winner of the gold medal at the 1932 Brussels Food Fair and many other awards, today the company is also very close to the most ecological and environmental impact issues, becoming the first plastic-free company in Montalcino. Supporting the 4 Rs for the environment: reduce, recover, recycle and reuse; Argiano practices organic and regenerative agriculture, leading to a balance of biodiversity through organic soil fertilization practices.

In Sant'Angelo in Colle, at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, 125 hectares of vineyards extend. The geographical area is characterized by a mild climate that contributes to the conservation of the vineyards in excellent health. Slow ripening is essential for the grapes to acquire the intense and particular aromatic aspects typical of this wine. The winemaking process is meticulously monitored and begins with spontaneous fermentation in steel containers at a controlled temperature for approximately 15 days. Argiano selects the grapes from its most cultivated vineyards. noble and ages the wine in two different types of wood. The first year is spent in French oak barriques and tonneaux of different types to enhance the wine's innate structure, while the second is spent in larger Slavonian oak barrels that allow it to achieve balance and where it remains for about 30 months. After completing the maturation process in wood, the wine is transferred to concrete tanks to rest and reach complete maturation until the moment of bottling. Argiano's Brunello di Montalcino embodies the tradition of a territory and one of Italy's most beloved wines.

Harvest Sangiovese grapes are usually harvested between late September and mid-October, depending on soil type, vineyard exposure and weather conditions.
Wine making The must is fermented in contact with the skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats for two to three weeks. The fermentation time varies from one vat to another, depending on the vineyards from which the grapes come. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, malolactic fermentation begins spontaneously, a natural process that transforms malic acid into lactic acid and makes the wine soft. This second fermentation can last from a few weeks to a few months, depending on various factors such as cellar temperature.
