Description

The Chablis 1er cru Vau Ligneau is produced on the Alain Geoffrey estate, founded in 1850, which has always produced and identified itself with Chablis. Alain Geoffrey has dedicated part of the estate to a museum containing more than 8,000 instruments accumulated by previous generations and coming from all over the world. Respect for tradition and attachment to the terroir meant that the Geoffreys were among the precursors of the Appellation d'Origine Controlé Chablis. The winery develops its land between the villages of Beine and La Chapelle Vaupelteigne.

The Vau Ligneau is a Chablis Premier Cru, therefore it is produced only from pure, top-quality Chardonnay grapes, grown in a soil consisting of calcareous marl and oyster fossils from the Kimmeridgian, Jurassic period. This rich, porous soil allows the vines to root deeply, and its great potential is reflected in the aromatic richness and strong mineral content of the final product. The soil and the care of the vine are just two factors for the production of the best Chablis; the presence of the "savoir-faire" is also necessary. of the winemaker, who accompanies and cares for the wine during the vinification process until its sale. Once pressed, the juice from the grapes is placed in stainless steel tanks for 24 hours before alcoholic fermentation, which lasts until winter and precedes the malolactic. The wine is then aged in tanks on the fine lees for several months to enhance its aromas and express all its complexity. It presents a great balance between power and softness and fully expresses the clarity of Chablis in both color and flavor.

Founded in 1850, this historic Chablis estate, 4,300 hectares in total, cultivates 45 hectares of its own vineyards all on limestone-marly soils rich in fossils, the Kimméridgien formed in the Jurassic period.

Vinification is carried out strictly in steel tanks, to preserve the freshness but above all the typicality of Chablis wines, where each cru has its own peculiarity that can be perceived right from the nose and where even the smallest differences in terroir are reflected in the individual wines.

Chablis wines are fine and elegant, capable of ageing for many years and the Domaine de Beines, through the valuable work of Alain Geoffroy and his daughters Cathy and Nathalie, is a great interpreter of the tradition of this area of Burgundy.
