Description

What kind of wine it is

Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino is a still red wine that embodies the winemaking identity of Tuscany. Produced by Silvio Nardi exclusively from Sangiovese grapes, it presents an intense ruby red colour enriched with elegant garnet highlights. On the nose, it develops a complex aromatic profile, characterised by ethereal notes of wild berries, anise and a delicate hint of vanilla. On the palate, it is warm and structured, with present yet smooth tannins. The remarkable persistence of flavour and lively acidity make it the ideal companion for roast meats and fine game.

Where it comes from

This prestigious wine is born among the hills of Montalcino. The vineyards are situated at around 350 metres above sea level, with north-west and south-east exposures that favour balanced ripening of the grapes. The soil composition, rich in jasper and clay schist, gives the aromatic profile extreme clarity and a well-defined texture. The rows, cultivated using the spurred cordon method, are tended to enhance the authentic expression of Sangiovese typical of this outstanding region.

How it is produced

The production process begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes in the third week of September. In the winery, fermentation and maceration take place over twenty days at a controlled temperature to extract colour and define structure. The wine then matures for twelve months in second-use French oak barrels, followed by another year in large Slavonian oak casks. A further six months of bottle ageing completes the cycle, ensuring this wine has extraordinary longevity and a complex ability to evolve over time.

In 1950, Silvio Nardi , father of the current owners, driven by his personal passion for wines, bought Casale del Bosco Estate, located in Montalcino. The family business has been represented by the Nardi Company since 1895 – a very important building construction company for the farm industry machinery, which is still located in Umbria.

In 1958, when the Brunello Consortium didn't exist yet and Montalcino was but a small unknown village, the first Brunello bottle came from the cellars of Casale del Bosco. Today, we can affirm that Silvio Nardi was the first "foreigner" to invest in the Montalcino.

In 1962, the Manachiara Estate was bought, with its 40 hectares of vineyards, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, 25 km from Casale del Bosco. The Manachiara vineyards give their name today to the company's precious Brunello cru of the same name.
In 1967 Silvio Nardi was one of the founders of the Brunello di Montalcino wine Consortium.

In 1990 Emilia Nardi, Silvio's youngest daughter, took over the management of the company. She introduced radical changes in the process of wine production and company management and embarked on a process of restructuring both the vineyards and the cellar, choosing to combine tradition with scientific research.
