Still organic red wine from Tuscany, 14% ABV, produced by Salcheto. 2017 vintage, 0.75L bottle. A Nobile di Montepulciano that embodies elegance and sustainability, with a maturation that enhances its complexity. Salco in ancient Tuscan means willow, a tree historically important in wine-growing areas because its branches (the "vinco") were used to tie the vines. Fragrant aromas of violet flowers, dark spices, and red fruit mingle with hints of fresh leather and tobacco. Overall, it is elegant and mellow, releasing aromas of ripe morello cherry, licorice root, and hints of dried herbs accompanied by velvety, rounded tannins. The precisely balanced palate captivates with inviting freshness and sweet tannins. The finish is long.

Salco means the willow tree in the ancient Tuscan language, an important plant for wine territories throughout history as its branches were used to bind and the vines.

Salcheto is the name of the stream , which springs at the foot of the town of Montepulciano and winds through a valley where willows abounded. This stream is the boundary of our organic and biodynamic estate, rooted in the historic district of Vino Nobile, in the southeast of the Siena province of Tuscany.

The willow tree, a species that we continue to replant at the winery, also contributes to the winery’s energy independence, is today prominently represented in our logo as part of our commitment to environmental sustainability. Read more
