Description
What kind of wine it is
Poggio Argentiera Syrah Podereadua is a red wine that precisely expresses the identity of Tuscany. Made from Syrah grapes, it stands out for its intense and clean profile, accompanied by a surprisingly smooth texture. The notes of liquorice and black pepper blend into a balanced sip, enriched by a delicate hint of wood. This structure enhances dishes based on pork, game and cheese, making it ideal for bold pairings such as wild boar with chocolate.
Where it comes from
This wine originates in the Maremma Toscana, combining two areas that define a distinct territorial identity. In Baccinello, the vines grow on alluvial pebble soils and calcareous clay, favouring fruit concentration. In Alberese, the soil matrix features a prevalence of sand and silt, ensuring a more relaxed flavour profile. The interaction between the Syrah variety and these different soil compositions encourages the expression of remarkable aromatic and flavour complexity.
How it is produced
Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with a long contact with the skins for two weeks, an essential step to regularly extract colour and phenolic components. Subsequently, maturation continues in French oak barrels for about fourteen months, allowing a measured integration of woody nuances. The process ends with an additional year of ageing before release, a necessary phase to stabilise the aromatic profile.
History and Curiosities
Born in 1997 from the passion of Poggioargentiera, the Syrah Podereadua 2021 embodies the authentic richness of Maremma Toscana. Produced with grapes grown in the soils of Baccinello and Alberese under the guidance of oenologist Marco Lamastra, this wine stands out for its remarkable smoothness on the palate. The meticulous ageing for fourteen months in French oak tonneaux, followed by a year in the bottle, gives it an intense and clean profile. The excellence of this IGT red is recognised by the 95 points awarded by James Suckling.

The 15 acres (six hectares) of vineyards began to produce grapes for a Morellino di Scansano and the new cellar was built. In 2001 the property was enlarged with the acquisition of another farm, located in Baccinello, a hillside zone in the township of Scansano. New vineyards were added to the older but prestigious existing ones, and today the winery owns over 50 acres (21 hectares) of vineyards all in the Morellino di Scansano appellation. Read more
