Producer
Jean Louis Vergnon
From this winery
  • Start up year: 1950
For five generations that is to say nearly two centuries, the house that shelters the champagne JL Vergnon was owned by the family. It belonged before to the Maison Regnault Frères, a retailer in wines and alcohol. The following century,Elisabeth Regnault, spouse Vergnon, gave it to her son, Jean-Louis.

In 1950, Jean-Louis VEergnon Vergnon recreated his vineyards on the slopes of Côte de Blancs in Mesnil/ Oger. First cooperator, he decided after few years not only to look after his vineyards, but also to make his own wines, pure Chardonnay with passion for the work from grapes to wine. His motto: Make exceptional grapes to make exceptional wines! The accidental and brutal death of his elder son Bruno in 1977 affected him deeply and delayed the making of his dream until the return of his second son Alain in 1979.

It is only in 1985 that they produced their first wines immediately put under the light and distinguished by a "Coup de Coeur" in 1987 by the Wine Guide Hachette for their first Extra Brut. The start of a long list of distinctions.

Unfortunately disappeared too soon, his example is still nowadays our inspiration. Our champagnes are all made exclusively with our own Grand Cru vineyards. Vinified in our house in Mesnil /Oger with the care of keeping the tradition alive and to perpetuate his know-how.

Then his wife, Monique Vergnon-Charlemagne and their children, Didier aidé par Brigitte, but also with the competence of a wine maker, Christophe Constant, go on with will on the path he designed himself, with the same passion for well done work.

Numerous congratulations in wine challenges, in revues and guides and the development of the brand and selling in France and abroad encourage them to stay as they are, that is to say Winegrowers respectful of the tradition.
