Description
What kind of spirit is this
Carupano Ron Anejo is an aged dark rum from Venezuela, crafted in the classic Spanish style from fermented molasses and bottled at 40% ABV. Protected by its national denomination of origin, this spirit presents a light amber colour with bright orange highlights. The aromatic profile is clean, opening with notes of white flowers, sweet molasses and caramel. On the palate, it reveals a medium body with a harmonious blend of raisins and nuts, leading to a distinctive saline edge. The tasting concludes with a dry, smooth finish, accented by hints of light oak, tobacco and leather.
Origin
This rum originates in the Macarapana Valley, situated at a low elevation near the Venezuelan coast. The region benefits from warm Caribbean breezes, high temperatures and significant humidity. This specific tropical microclimate naturally accelerates the interaction between the spirit and the cask during maturation. Production relies on high-quality local molasses and pure water drawn directly from a natural spring. These geographical factors contribute to the soft mouthfeel and the characteristic fresh cane notes that define the brand’s signature style.
Production
The process begins with molasses, distilled in column stills to yield a highly pure distillate. The rum is then matured in American white oak barrels that previously held bourbon. This occurs through a closed ageing process with no topping up, integrating solera-style reserve stocks to maintain a consistent character. This method imparts gentle oak spices and subtle citrus accents to the spirit. The resulting rum achieves excellent balance, delivering controlled sweetness and a clean, dry finish that can be enjoyed neat or in cocktails.
