Domaine de la Chappe

La Ferme de la Chappe stands on the top of a hill just west of the town of Tonnerre, it is reached after having climbed a side road that winds through the woods along a small valley with some groups of vines. The Tonnerre wine region is located near Auxerre, in the north of Burgundy, and is certainly less known than the nearby Chablis (16 km by road) or the area of Beaune.

La Ferme de la Chappe is a multi-crop farm, Vincent's father also grew wheat when he pressured some other farmers in the Tonnerre area to replant vines about 30 years ago. Today, he and his wife continue to manage the wheat farm, but his son Vincent gradually conquered the 2.5 hectares of vineyards in 2003. He transformed the vineyards into organic farming even though his father was already working in a fairly traditional way, and has extended its winemaking capacity by buying organic grapes in the area.

Vincent produces wine from a total of 6 hectares of vineyards, including 2.5 hectares of his family's farm, to which he adds another 3.5 hectares of black grapes. Its vineyards are cultivated with Aligoté and Chardonnay and it buys things different from others (organic when possible) farmers like Chablis, Petit Chablis and Beaujolais, everything depends on the years and on what it finds.
