History The name Primitivo derives from the early ripening of the grapes. Its origins are uncertain, perhaps a native of Dalmatia and imported to Apulia by the Illyrians more than two thousand years ago. To support this thesis, according to some authors, Primitivo would be identical to the Croatian vine, Plavac Mali, and even more so to the Zinfandel native to Hungary and later brought to California and Australia. Recent DNA analyses have confirmed this hypothesis. ('Vitigni d'Italia' Scienza, Calò, Costacurta).

It was 2004 when Luciano Ercolino, picking up a long family legacy, founded his winery in Paternopoli.

We are in one of the most vocated and historical areas of Irpinia, where the 50 hectares cultivated with the native varieties, Fiano, Greco and Aglianico, insist. These serve as a solid basis for a project that aims to enhance the Irpinian wine tradition through a contemporary technical interpretation.
