Description

This red grape variety, originally from Gironde, has become very popular internationally, establishing itself in Friuli Venezia Giulia and in particular in the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC area, its best expression. It has been mentioned since the 18th century, but in Friuli it was described only at the end of the 19th century in the area of Cividale and in a 1921 exhibition. As early as 1933, Professor Dalmasso tasted excellent samples, as he wrote in “Agricoltura Friulana”, and after the Cividale Exhibition he considered Merlot a grape suitable for making wines for ageing as well.

Sirch's project started in 2002, but the family has been producing wine for more than three generations. Sirch wines express the territory without forcing. The will to make "clean and simple" wines really conceals the conviction of obtaining subtle complexity and rich in nuances. Sirch aims at rediscovering the traditional style of Friulian wines, children of respect for the territory and the almost exclusive exploitation of the work in the vineyard.

The company is in the heart of the Doc of the Colli Orientali of Friuli, in Cividale del Friuli - Unesco Natural Heritage from 2011 - the most fresh area of ??this famous terroir especially dedicated to the production of white wines. These hills are located in the northeast part of the province of Udine, continuing north towards the Carnic Alps. Mediterranean and continental climates ensure constant ventilation with sensitive thermal excursions that affect and enhance the varietal aromas of vines.

Nature has created a magic in this area of ??Friuli, creating marvelous hilly terrains where vineyards are subject to many microclimatic variables resulting from an unlimited union between the breezes of the Adriatic Sea and the fresh winds of the East. The vineyards - about 100 hectares - are scattered in different areas, they are of variable age and bred with guyot or with the classic "double upside down".

In 2022 Wine Enthusiast awarded the following wines:

- Sauvignon - Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2021: 91 points

- Friulano - Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2021: 91 points

- Ribolla Gialla - Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2021: 90 points

- Pinot Grigio - Friuli DOC 2020: 90 points
