Description
Torbato Terre Bianche Cuvée 161 is a still white wine D.O.C. (Controlled Designation of Origin) produced from 100% Torbato grapes in Sardinia, more precisely north of the city of Alghero. Brought to the island by the Phoenicians, Torbato Terre Bianche Cuvée arrives from the coasts of the Iberian Peninsula, maintaining its Catalan name. An ancient vine, grown in the countryside of a city, Alghero, surrounded by the Mediterranean and Sardinia. This special grape variety has been the subject of important studies for several years by the Sella & Mosca winery, the first Sardinian winemaking complex to vinify the fruits of this particular vine variety. The land that hosts the Torbato Terre Bianche Cuvée 161 vineyards is cultivated with Sardinian pergola vines, designed to avoid direct exposure to the sun. Terre Bianche was created in 2007 with the aim of maximizing the potential of this ancient grape variety. The name Terre Bianche derives from the calcareous soil where it is grown. All cultivation operations on these ancient vineyards are planned based on an accurate production forecast specifically tailored to the type of wine. The producer monitors the growth of the vines with the aid of aerial photography, allowing for timely interventions on the vineyards should weather conditions affect the ideal microclimate for grape production. The long duration of the élevages period, which takes place in Allier barriques, gives structure to this wine.
