Wine production in oil has very ancient origins, as evidenced by the house and the basement are part of the ancient medieval fiefdom Galatrona, of which there is still a tower soaring over the hills planted with vines, hence the name of the wine of the same name. The company is located in the Chianti area already demarcated as an area of great value wine from the Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1716 and known as the Val d'Arno di Sopra. Oil was purchased by Bazzocchi family in the '40s, and the second half of the '80s, the current owner, Bazzocchi Sanjust Lucia, and his son Luke have taken a turn Sanjust production based solely on criteria of research of extreme quality.

Origin The area is that of the Colli Aretini that encircle the Chianti Mountains, historically known and so delimited in 1716 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany as an area of particular viticultural and olive-growing merit. The Petrolo estate was part of the ancient medieval fiefdom of 'Galatrona', of which the tower (Torrione, from which the name of the wine originates) still exists, erected on bases dating back to Roman times. The Petrolo vineyards extend over 31 hectares, of which 26 hectares are currently in production, at an altitude between 250 and 450 metres above sea level.
Soil composition Rocky stratifications of marl, sandstone and alberese of Chianti
Cultivation system Utmost care and attention at Petrolo is put into the daily work in the vineyard. Aware of the fact that great wines can only be obtained if you have special and favourable soil and climatic conditions, and we at Petrolo are fortunate enough to have them, only then with maniacal and manual work in the vineyard, ranging from dry winter pruning, to tying and then to the various stages of cleaning the vines up to the green harvests (at Petrolo in two phases, one after flowering and one after veraison) is it possible to convince the vines to produce not only a very limited quantity but also a balanced quantity. And it is precisely this condition of balance that will bring the vines and grapes to full ripeness at harvest, which will naturally then be seen in the wine in a perfect harmony between fruit and acidity and persistence on the palate.
Plants per hectare 5.000
Yield per hectare 20 hl

Wine making After malolactic fermentation, the wine remained in new French oak barriques for a period of 18 months. During this phase, the wine was left on the fine lees for the first 6 months, paying particular attention to its evolution. This process made it possible to achieve greater complexity. Following bottling, the wine began its customary ageing period of 6 months.
