Description

An extraordinary, award winner nebbiolo born in the heart of the Roero to create fragrances that only the great wines of all times can express. The calcareous soil gives us a wine that is particularly grumpy, but with great substance Piedmontese, that with time, it softens it giving it great aging potential.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1950
  • Oenologist: Roberto e Giacomo Damonte
  • Bottles produced: 300.000
  • Hectares: 43
Giuseppe Damonte started making wine in the 1950s in his family-run business with a dream: to put into the bottle the soul and suggestions of the land he loves, to be discovered sip by sip. In the mid-1970s, the winery was renamed Malvirà, after the old building constructed at the end of the 19th century in the centre of the village of Canale and which became the site of the family winery. The curious name derives from the northern exposure of the courtyard instead of the southern one as peasant tradition dictated.

In 1989, the Malvirà winery was moved to its current location at the foot of the S.S. Trinità vineyard; during the last three decades, new extensions have been carried out to adapt to the winery's needs.

Massimo and Roberto, the second generation of the family, inherited from their father a production philosophy that makes the Roero the most incredible inspiration: Malvirà proposes and continues to propose refined and expressive wines capable of giving sincere emotions.

The company's extensive collection of wines from more than 20 vintages represents a precious witness of time. Created to show the excellent ageing potential of Roero wines, it offers a unique opportunity to taste our history.
