Description
The history of Librandi Gravello dates back to the early 1980s when the company wanted to exploit the potential of a native grape variety with an international one. The wine is a blend of Gaglioppo and Cabernet Sauvignon. The two grape varieties complement each other, creating a blend of rare complexity, so much so that it has become the company's flagship product. It should not be forgotten that Librandi was the forerunner of Calabrese wines throughout the world. The brothers, gifted with foresight, interpreted the potential of the Crotone area with excellent results. The wine is born in the land that was once part of Magna Graecia. Gaglioppo in particular is thought to have been the wine given to the winners of the Olympic Games. The Gravello wine has the Val di Neto Rosso IGT designation. The grape varietal percentages are: Gaglioppo 60% and Cabernet Sauvignon 40%. The soils are clayey-calcareous in nature, and the microclimate is mitigated by sea breezes blowing from the Ionian Sea. The vineyards are located both in the Agro di Stongoli on the Librandi estate and in the Agro Rocca di Neto on the Rosaneti estate. The manual harvest of the grapes in crates begins during the first ten days of October. The grapes are then crushed and destemmed and left to ferment in steel at a controlled temperature. After malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in wooden barrels. Aging in wood lasts approximately 12 months in Allier barriques. Once considered ready, it is bottled for further refinement in glass. Before being released for sale, the wine will rest in the bottle for 6 months.
