Pairings
The events of the ’30s and ’40s – first the devastation caused by phylloxera throughout Italian vineyards, and then the hardship caused by the war years – were to jeopardise the very survival of the newly founded cooperative winery. With a heavy heart, the decision was taken to suspend all activity and let out the space, waiting for better times to come.
The post-war years were those of rebuilding and rebirth, thanks to its enlightened management, aiming at an increase in production, in investments and in the modernisation of the production process.
The ’70s and ’80s proved to be those of the boom – in terms of the number of members, production levels and turnover – but also ones of experimentation: from wholesale distribution, the move was also made towards in-house bottling and retail, thus valorising the qualitative aspect of wine production.
The following decades would confirm the importance of the Cantina Sociale as a key point of reference for the whole economy of the Samoggia Valley: a position further strengthened in 2016 due to joining forces with the Cantina di Carpi e Sorbara. Read more
