This wine is so called because once upon a time, in the house next door, lived an old lady always dressed in black, who was nicknamed 'l'uselun', i.e the big bird.

Giacomo Bologna began its relationship with Barbera in 1961 creating the Monella: the flagship wine, the hymn to joy and vitality, the will to live. Today, so many years after Giacomo and his wife Anna have gone, the torch was passed to their sons Giuseppe and Raffaella, and little has changed.
