Description
The Umbrian Orvieto Superiore Luigi e Giovanna is a still white wine with a Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC). An organic wine produced from a blend of Grechetto (80%) and Trebbiano Giallo (20%). This white wine is the fruit of vines planted in the hilly area overlooking Lake Corbara and crossed by the Tiber. The vines are trained using the Guyot system on volcanic soil with a calcareous-clayey composition and rich in sediments, which provide the grapes with important mineral nutrients. The vineyards enjoy an ideal microclimate; in autumn, in fact, they are mostly covered in fog, but thanks to their position, this is swept away by gusts of fresh air. The Luigi e Giovanna Orvieto Superiore from the Barberani winery reflects the most ancient winemaking tradition of the Umbrian region. The grapes are hand-picked and placed in crates. The harvest takes place in mid-September, after carefully selecting the bunches. The vinification process then begins, beginning with a 24-hour maceration on the skins at a temperature close to freezing. This is followed by a gentle pressing, and the various musts are cooled in stainless steel tanks. The entire alcoholic fermentation process is carried out with indigenous, self-produced yeasts and at controlled temperatures ranging from 15°C to 18°C. Fermentation takes place for 6 months in 28-hectoliter French oak barrels. Subsequently, still in French barrels, the malolactic fermentation takes place. This is followed by bottling. Before being released for sale, however, the wine must age in the bottle for another year. The result is an intense wine product, a structured, elegant, and savory wine.
