Description
The Vermentino Costamolino is produced by the Cantina Argiolas which has created a fascinating cohesion with the territory in Sardinia for three generations. The family business was founded in the late 1930s and over the years has managed to become one of the most important wineries on the island. Today Argiolas is a symbol of sustainability, with chemicals reduced to a minimum, the vines are a precious heritage and the point of origin of production. Over the years, the agricultural system has also advanced and today each of the company's estates is controlled and studied through a geolocalization system that allows remote monitoring of the condition of the plants and consequently also the interventions to be carried out to improve their health and extend their life.
The Costamolino is the perfect representation of the traditional Vermentino di Sardegna DOC, produced from the grapes of the Vecchie Vigne estate. The estate is located on the hills of the municipality of Selegas on a calcareous and marly relief that features both brown soils and very calcareous soils. From here, thanks also to the good altitude, the best white wines of Argiolas are born. After harvesting and arriving at the cellar, the grapes are selected and pressed. Only the free-run must is used for vinification, which begins with natural decantation at a controlled temperature of 10-12°C. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C for about 20 days, followed by a period of maturation on the fine lees. Before being sold, the Costamolino ages in the bottle for a couple of months to obtain an intense, dry white wine with an excellent aroma.

From their grand old man, a monument to an extraordinary entrepreneurial history, they have picked up the stubbornness and sense of challenge to the world, the simple and authentic joy of harvesting and crushing, the passion that springs from the bubbling musts and the effervescent young wines, the personality that defines the tenacious and mature wines, as soft as the limestone in which their roots are sunk, perfumed and savoury like the sea, long-lived like Sardinians.
In 1979 Antonio Argiolas, an established local entrepreneur, went to Argentina and California. These travels were a source of inspiration for him, and represented the beginning of a revolution; in fact these showed him the needs to overcome the parcelling out the countryside, which was widespread on the island, and to employ technologically advanced machines to work larger expanses of land under single ownership.
So, he acquired the lands of Selegas-Sa Tanca and Susini, the Winery’s largest estates. These are the places that Argiolas wine speak of, emblems of the strength, courage and farsightedness of the idea. Read more
