Description
Champagne Rosé is a light salmon-colored French sparkling wine, characterized by interesting fruity notes mixed with toasted notes. Produced by the André Coulet winery, specializing in the cultivation of Pinot Noir Grand Cru vines in Bouzy (an area located in the southern part of the Montagne de Reims), it has held the well-deserved AOC designation of origin (AOC) for years. It is made from a skillful combination of 92% Pinot Noir red grapes and 8% Vin Rouge, according to the classic brut method. High latitudes are the best habitat for this grape variety, which prefers soil with a good concentration of clay and limestone and a fairly cool climate. The Pinot Noir is lovingly cared for until ripe, and then harvested by hand in mid-September. The must undergoes a soft pressing and then moves into stainless steel tanks. Rosé Champagne is made according to the classic brut method, which involves refermentation of the wine in the bottle through the addition of selected, strictly indigenous yeasts that activate the fermentation process. After a long rest, the product undergoes remouage, which concentrates all the sediment in the neck of the bottle and near the cork, which is then eliminated by manual disgorgement. The result is a well-structured sparkling wine with an interesting aromatic persistence.

It took more than two centuries and several generations of Clouet to get plots of vines in the terroir of Bouzy, which remain in the hands of the family of its founder. Bouzy is situated in the Southern part of the Mountain of Reims. The 9 hectares are classified as 100% Grand Cru. Only 17 of the 300 existing villages benefit from the status of Grand Cru, Bouzy being one of them. Lovingly tended vines ripen perfectly Bouzy pinot noir, one of the world's most complex strains. There is 8,000 feet per acre and soils are cool with calcareous clay. Read more
