Description
What kind of spirit is this?
Double Cask by The Macallan is a Single Malt Scotch Whisky that delivers a smooth and structured profile. Matured in American and European oak casks seasoned with dry Oloroso Sherry, it reveals a defined sweetness and integrated oak spice. The nose presents aromas of dried fruit, ginger, and toffee, enhanced by orange, clove, and nutmeg, while the palate offers a rich blend of sultana, caramel, vanilla, honey, and melted chocolate. The experience concludes with a long, warm finish driven by ginger, sweet orange, and toasted wood, making it ideal for contemplative sipping or pairing with elegant appetisers.
Where it comes from
This spirit originates from the renowned Speyside region of Scotland, deeply rooted in the Easter Elchies estate in Aberlour. The geographical identity of this area is reflected in the full, aromatic profile and balanced sweetness of the liquid. Central to The Macallan’s philosophy is an uncompromising approach to wood management, ensuring that every cask shapes the final character. The double cask style relies on the deliberate interaction between two types of oak, providing depth, distinct citrus notes, and a measured spiciness that firmly establishes its authentic Scottish provenance and coherent flavour profile.
How it is produced
Production begins in uniquely shaped, small copper stills, specifically designed to preserve and concentrate the most refined aromas during distillation. The maturation process takes place in carefully selected American and European oak casks that have been toasted and seasoned with dry Oloroso Sherry. The American oak imparts delicate layers of vanilla and butterscotch, while the European wood adds profound depth and subtle spiciness. This careful maturation yields a harmonious spirit with an alcohol content of 43% vol., ensuring a rich sweetness and a lasting aromatic finish.
