Description
What kind of wine is it
Champagne 1er Cru Rosé de Maceration Extra Brut by Pouillon is an elegant rosé made from Pinot Noir grapes. Crafted according to the strict Traditional Method, it stands out for its intense pink colour and a fine, persistent perlage. On the nose, it offers clear aromas of red fruits, leading to a refined, generous palate with a long finish. The Extra Brut style ensures marked freshness, while the Premier Cru designation defines its high quality. It is a harmonious glass, perfect for enhancing shellfish, sushi, cured meats and soft cheeses.
Where does it come from
This wine originates in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, in the heart of the renowned Champagne region. The pedoclimatic environment, classified as Premier Cru, boasts a specific geological structure: the vines sink their roots into a shallow, chalk-rich soil, supported by a deep clay subsoil. This combination imparts clear aromatic precision and great finesse to the glass. The calcareous matrix gives tension and cleanliness to the finish, naturally enhancing the identity of this exceptional terroir.
How is it produced
Vinification begins with a short maceration of about 12 hours on the skins of well-ripened Pinot Noir grapes, essential for extracting the typical colour and primary aromas. The must then ferments in tanks and French oak barrels. A portion is kept in wood to be blended with reserve wines to form the final blend. After the prise de mousse according to the Traditional Method, the wine matures on the lees for a period between 18 and 24 months. After disgorgement, it rests for a further 3-6 months, achieving optimal flavour expression and an elegant perlage.
History and Curiosities
Born in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ from a terroir rich in chalk and clay, this Champagne Premier Cru was conceived by the producer as a rebellious yet refined wine. The brief twelve-hour maceration of pure Pinot Noir extracts its vibrant pink colour and unique fruity aromas. Expert vinification in French oak barrels and ageing on the lees for 18-24 months give this Extra Brut a generous and juicy structure. After disgorgement, resting in the cellar perfects its fine perlage, offering intense emotions with every sip.
