Description

What kind of wine it is

Luigi Pira Langhe Nebbiolo is a still red wine that elegantly expresses the character of its territory. To the eye, it displays an intense garnet red colour, revealing fruity and spicy aromas enhanced by delicate leather notes. On the palate, it is smooth and enveloping, supported by a structure of sweet and fine tannins that lead to a good persistent finish. To fully appreciate its sensory profile, it is ideally paired with flavourful filled pasta, roasted meats or mature cheeses.

Where it comes from

This Piedmontese red is produced in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, within the renowned hilly area of the Langhe. Luigi Pira’s vineyards thrive on calcareous-clay soils, situated at around three hundred and ten metres above sea level. The favourable south and south-west exposure ensures optimal sunlight for regular ripening of the grapes, shaping a wine with a defined structure and pronounced spicy sensations. The Pira family cultivates their thirteen hectares, maintaining a strong historical connection with these hills since the late nineteenth century.

How it is produced

Vinification involves harvesting the Nebbiolo grapes and then fermenting in stainless steel at a controlled temperature, which lasts for about eighteen to twenty days. Afterwards, the wine matures for nine months in Slavonian oak barrels. This stage is essential to smooth the tannic structure and preserve a clear varietal character, ensuring excellent structural balance. It is recommended to let the wine breathe for an hour before serving, so it can fully express its potential.

History and Curiosities

The Luigi Pira winery is deeply rooted in the hills of Serralunga d’Alba, a region to which the family has been connected since the late nineteenth century. Dedicated to excellence since the first bottlings in the 1990s, the estate preserves an authentic Piedmontese heritage. Under the guidance of oenologist Gianpaolo Pira, the vineyards at 310 metres above sea level thrive on calcareous-clay soils with an ideal south and south-west exposure. Every bottle produced from these thirteen hectares enhances the quality of the grapes, offering a sip that remains true to local tradition.

Our family has had a bond with the hills of Serralunga d'Alba since the end of the 19th century. Starting in the 1950s, Luigi Pira, together with his wife Rosa, transformed the estate into a wine-growing business, aiming to enhance the valuable product of Serralunga d'Alba. Our wines are the result of a journey through generations - from Luigi's grandparents to his granddaughters - a journey of traditions and devotion, of growth and an eye to the future. A journey that has taken place entirely in the generous grounds of Serralunga d'Alba.

The first step taken by Luigi marked a significant imprint for the company and, in the early 1990s, with the arrival of his sons Gianpaolo, Romolo and Claudio, the family began bottling their own wines, seeking the highest quality.
