Description

What kind of wine it is

Radice by Paltrinieri is a dry sparkling rosé that expresses the most authentic character of Lambrusco di Sorbara. Made using the ancestral method, it displays a salmon pink colour, slightly hazy due to the natural presence of lees. The aromatic profile is clear and fragrant, enlivened by notes of raspberry and grapefruit that precede a palate marked by pronounced freshness. The dry, pleasantly bitter finish is supported by a creamy and persistent mousse.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Sorbara, the prime area for cultivating Lambrusco di Sorbara in Emilia-Romagna. The vines grow in the historic Il Cristo vineyard, characterised by loose, silty soils. This earthy composition is essential for giving the grapes a slender profile and maintaining the high acidic imprint typical of the variety. Paltrinieri has been working these lands since 1926, constantly enhancing the purest expression of the Modena region.

How it is produced

Production begins with the free-run must vinified as a white, obtained through gentle pressing of the grapes. Alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously thanks to the action of indigenous yeasts. This is followed by a natural refermentation in the bottle lasting about ninety days. As it is offered without any dosage and without disgorgement or filtration, the wine retains a hazy appearance and preserves its original tactile consistency.

History and Curiosities

Radice represents the soul of the Paltrinieri winery, a historic family business active since 1926 in the Modena area. This pure Lambrusco di Sorbara, from the Il Cristo vineyard, celebrates the most authentic Emilian tradition. Its uniqueness lies in the ancestral method, with a natural refermentation that preserves the indigenous yeasts in the bottle, without dosage or disgorgement. This process gives the wine a pronounced acidity and a creamy perlage, qualities that earned the 2024 vintage excellent reviews from Vinous.

""When I finished my studies, my father asked me what I wanted to do in life. My answer was that I wanted to keep alive the tradition of work that grandfather Achille had begun in 1926 and that he and my mother had been running for 40 years. In 1998, with my wife Barbara, I started directing the winery, gambling on the production of the first mono-varietal Sorbara. Since then, I have managed and produced 17 hectares of vineyards in the historic area of the Cristo di Sorbara, the thinnest extension of land between the Secchia and the Panaro, the two rivers that embrace the province of Modena."
