Description
What kind of wine it is
The Massolino Barolo Serralunga d’Alba Vigna Rionda Riserva is a red wine of exceptional calibre, made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Recognised as a Barolo Riserva, it stands out for its complex and layered aromatic profile: in its youth, clear notes of red fruits and floral hints emerge, while with age it develops elegant nuances of undergrowth, tobacco and spices. On the palate, it displays a great structure, with a refined, deep and remarkably persistent taste. To best appreciate its qualities, it is recommended to serve at a temperature of 18-20°C, preferably after an hour of decanting.
Where it comes from
The grapes are grown in the prestigious Vigna Rionda vineyard, located in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba at around 300 metres above sea level. The rows of old vines sink their roots into soil characterised by medium-textured calcareous marl, a fundamental geological element that ensures the wine’s aromatic concentration and precise tannic definition. In this renowned area of Piedmont, Massolino works to enhance the natural richness of the soils, creating a profound and faithful expression of its place of origin.
How it is produced
Production follows classic methods, involving a maceration in oak vats for 25-30 days at a temperature of around 30°C. The wine then matures in large Slavonian oak barrels for a period of 42 months, finishing its journey with a long final rest. This meticulous winemaking practice ensures a potential longevity ranging from 15 to 25 years. At the table, it pairs perfectly with rich first courses, pork, game and mature cheeses, making it a wine of great depth, also ideal for contemplation.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1896, the renowned Massolino winery enhances its winemaking heritage through the prestigious Cru Vigna Rionda of Serralunga d’Alba. This multi-award-winning 2019 Riserva encapsulates the authentic soul of fifty-year-old Nebbiolo vines. The production of this excellent red follows the traditional style, with meticulous fermentation in wooden vats and a lengthy ageing of 42 months in Slavonian oak barrels, before a further period of rest in the bottle. An oenological masterpiece distinguished by extraordinary longevity, structure, and elegance.

With tenacity and passion, we have been making wine since 1896.
Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda is the dream of our great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine.
Our family is firmly at the helm of the historic estate that inhaled the vibrant air full of change of the late 19th century and navigated the tides of the first half of the 20th century. Today, we face the new challenges of the 21st century, in the capable hands of the third and fourth generations.
We are Massolino Vigna Rionda and we are writing a legacy with our wines. Read more
