Description
What kind of wine it is
Massolino Barolo Parafada is a still red wine from Piedmont, made from Nebbiolo grapes. This Barolo reveals a deep aromatic profile, characterised by notes of ripe red fruits, dried rose and dark spices. On the palate, it displays a robust and austere structure, supported by dense tannins and a distinct minerality that defines its persistent finish. Its high complexity makes it an ideal wine for long ageing in the cellar.
Where it comes from
This wine originates from the prestigious Parafada vineyard, located in the heart of Serralunga d’Alba, in an area between Lazzarito and Gabutti. The rows, with vines over fifty years old trained using the Guyot method, benefit from excellent southern exposure at an altitude of around three hundred and thirty metres, ensuring perfect ripening of the grapes. The composition of the calcareous-marl and sandy soils gives the wine a pronounced savouriness and an identity deeply linked to the hilly territory.
How it is produced
Following a careful manual harvest carried out in the second half of October, the grapes undergo meticulous vinification. Fermentation includes a prolonged maceration on the skins at a controlled temperature. Maturation takes place in large oak casks for about thirty months, allowing optimal structural development. Ageing concludes with a rest of at least one year in cool, dark cellars, perfectly harmonising every component of the sensory profile.
History and Curiosities
Founded in 1896, the historic Massolino winery continues a centuries-old family tradition, now under the careful guidance of Franco and Roberto. This majestic red wine is born from the prestigious Parafada vineyard, located in Serralunga d’Alba and renowned for its classification as a first-category subzone in the historic mapping by Renato Ratti. A true expression of the Piedmontese territory, the exceptional 2021 vintage has won over international critics, receiving extraordinary accolades such as 97 points from James Suckling and the Tre Stelle Oro Veronelli.

With tenacity and passion, we have been making wine since 1896.
Azienda Agricola Massolino Vigna Rionda is the dream of our great-grandfather Giovanni, who founded the estate in 1896. In those days, it was a traditional Langa farm, producing fruit and vegetables, raising livestock and making wine.
Our family is firmly at the helm of the historic estate that inhaled the vibrant air full of change of the late 19th century and navigated the tides of the first half of the 20th century. Today, we face the new challenges of the 21st century, in the capable hands of the third and fourth generations.
We are Massolino Vigna Rionda and we are writing a legacy with our wines. Read more
