Description
Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a DOCG red wine produced by the Le Macioche winery. It goes without saying that we are located in the province of Siena in the municipality of Montalcino, perhaps one of the best-known names when it comes to wines, especially important reds. The Sangiovese vineyards are grown on hills 450 meters above sea level. The clayey soil with the presence of galestro outcrops allows for good drainage; the vines' roots descend deep enough to support the grapes even in particularly dry years. Geological conformation, altitude and exposure have created a perfect mix where the Sangiovese grapes are able to give their best, giving life to a Brunello of superior quality. The vine training system is the classic Guyot. It is ideal for arid and poor soils to allow the vines to make the most of the available resources. The cultivation is strictly organic and the harvest is done by hand in September. At the winery, after the grapes have passed through the destemmer, they are soft pressed; the resulting must is immediately placed in steel tanks to begin fermentation for 10-12 days. The next step is racking with transfer into wooden containers for malolactic fermentation. By March-April, the Brunello is ready for long years of aging in oak barrels, culminating in a final period of refinement in bottle. After many years of waiting, those fortunate enough will be able to taste a wine with unique and unparalleled characteristics.

The company’s name comes from the local word for the root of the strawberry tree, the shrub which forms the forests surrounding the estate: Macioca. We wanted to give our logo a makeover, symbolising our bond with the Montalcino region. At the same time, the fresh design is the symbol of the fusion between tradition and innovation that will accompany our wines’ journey from now on. This fusion can be seen in the entire group run by the enologist, Maurizio Castelli, and the agronomist, Mery Ferrara. Since 2000, they have introduced organic farming methods to the company and now, thanks to the new ownership, they have received the official stamp of approval with the launch of the organic conversion process.
The company stretches over a total area of around 6 hectares and includes 3 hectares of Brunello vineyards, along with 1 hectare of olive groves. Our land is located at an altitude of around 420 m above sea level, facing South/South West.
Le Macioche is owned by the Cotarella Family. Read more
