Description

What kind of wine it is

Pataphysique Extra Brut by Guillaume Sergent is the Champagne Blanc de Noirs that expresses the natural vocation of the Pinot Meunier grape variety. Crafted according to the Traditional Method, it appears in the glass with a golden yellow hue and a fine, persistent perlage. The bouquet opens with fragrant aromas of red fruits, enriched by complex notes resulting from extended ageing on the lees. On the palate, this Champagne Extra Brut reveals itself as distinctly fresh, savoury and harmonious.

Where it comes from

This wine originates in Vrigny, France, in the heart of the Champagne region. The production reflects an artisanal philosophy on a small scale, the result of the dedication of an independent winemaker who works less than two hectares of vineyard. The estate's roots date back to 1842, while since 2009, in-house vinification has allowed for a direct enhancement of the terroir, delivering a dry, vertical and faithful expression of Pinot Meunier grapes.

How it is produced

The vineyard management follows strict principles of organic and sustainable agriculture, respecting the balance of the vines. The processing of the grapes avoids the use of new wood to highlight the absolute freshness of the base wines. The secondary fermentation takes place following the Traditional Method, accompanied by a long period on the lees which refines the texture of the bubbles. The Extra Brut dosage at disgorgement finally ensures a crisp, taut and elegant sip.

History and Curiosities

Produced in Vrigny on an estate whose history dates back to 1842, Guillaume Sergent's Pataphysique Extra Brut 2018 expresses the most authentic essence of Champagne. This organic Blanc de Noirs from less than two hectares enhances the Pinot Meunier. The skilful vinification follows the traditional method, with a long maturation on the lees that releases elegant notes of red fruits. On the palate, it is harmonious, fresh and savoury, enriched by a fine and persistent perlage. An artisanal excellence destined to evolve magnificently over time.

From this winery
  • Start up year: 1842
This young oenologist takes over the family estate in 2009. It is actually a micro company because the vineyard does not even cover 2 hectares of which 70% is Pinot Meunier, 20% Chardonnaye and 10% Pinot Noir.

Previous generations have always chosen to rely on a cooperative for the entire process of wine production, since Guillaume's entry into the company, the wine-making process has been carried out within the company, producing a limited quantity every year, but always in slight growth. None new wood is used during processing so as not to alter the character of the wine.

Les Pres Dieu is the first cuvée made by Guillaume and worked in two wooden barrels. The production is only 615 bottles. The dosage of 4.5 g/l has been established; this allows the freshness of the sandy terroir of Vrigny to be maintained and the slight oxidation to be balanced. which gives this cuvée its complexity.
