It all began with Filippo Giusti who in 1930 decided to undertake the activity of a winemaker. Twenty years later, his son Luigi takes over the Castelferretti Castle winery, near the current Falconara airport. With the third generation represented by Piergiovanni, the company, while maintaining the family character, expands its business by building a new structure in Montignano di Senigallia closer to the vineyards, allocating the old cellar to refine bottled wines. "Every day I try to discover new expressions of this ancient vine". With these words Piergiovanni Giusti expresses his own visceral attachment to his territory and to the Lacrima, to which the entire vineyard is dedicated.

The approximately 14 hectares of vineyards extend over the hills between Senigallia and Ancona between 100 and 150 meters above sea level, on medium-textured soils, facing south and the sea a couple of kilometers to the east. The form of farming, after years of low spurred cordon, is undergoing a slow and meticulous conversion to guyot, always with a density per hectare of five thousand vines.

Agriculture with low environmental impact is practiced on plants of thirty years, with pruning and thinning yields are contained between 45 and 65 quintals per hectare, well below the maximum allowed by the disciplinary. In the cellar, thanks to the collaboration of Giancarlo Soverchia, we have worked and are still working to get out of the stereotype of the Lacrima commonly considered a light and fresh wine, experimenting with different vinifications that enhance the rich aromatic richness of this vine.

The selection of the grapes is done manually on the sorting table, the vinification is at a controlled temperature, the malolactic fermentation is carried out in wood and the refinements are diversified according to the type. The result is a production focused on the Morro d’Alba grape variety in all its versions, with the Lacrima Superiore Luigino at the apex, which is aged on wooden yeasts and made to wait for a long time for tasting. The Lacrima di Morro d’Alba Rubbjano, which is also absent, follows closely with aging in barriques.
